National Suicide Is Not Painless - Opinion! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Rick Tavares

After spending most of this morning attempting to contact someone in government, and/or the media, who genuinely gives a damn about the United States surviving for another 232 years or more, I came to the realization that talk is about all that a few of us have left - that and political bluster! (Latest case in point being - the Army’s Lakota Helicopter)

One of the greatest advantages that we as a nation have is the ability to envision, design and manufacture the absolute best military hardware ever conceived! This genius has enabled us to survive and thrive, as well as lead the way into the future! Well, things have changed, and the worm has definitely turned! We have become more “Internationalist than Patriots - More Follower Than Innovator, More Money Hungry and Yes-Men Than World Leaders?”

Latest case in point: when Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), and before him, even the Chinese (believe it or not), invented toys that could take off and land vertically, they had no way of knowing that their concept would eventually become a mainstay of modern warfare. However, another axiom of war to be considered is the fact that nothing remains stoic, lest it and it’s users become defunct (AMEN)!

With the advent of the modern helicopter in 1940, and the genius behind it (Igor Sikorsky a Russian-born engineer who immigrated to the United States in 1919), a “New Age Of Aerial Technology” was born.

Our success, and survival as well, were encompassed in the fact that we were able to keep our inventions, design and production in house where they belonged! No longer, however, as is evident with the United State’s Army’s New Lakota Helicopter.

That magnificent work horse of the military, the Bell Huey or Slick if you prefer, was a mainstay of our efforts in Vietnam, and it has been utilized for numerous functions ever since that conflict! These functions include search and rescue, fire fighting and even news coverage, etc. However, and ignoring the old saying that goes: “If Something Works, improve upon it if you must, but do not attempt to replace it“, the Army has opted to commit the most flagrant of all mistakes by going off-shore to purchase military hardware, including buying a new era of error-ridden helicopters like the Lakota! (another of my opinion,)

With a splendid and all-American sounding name, the “Lakota”, is, for the most part, foreign manufactured! It is, however, named after the American Indian Tribe that sired such notable Indian leaders as Sitting Bull! “Why is the U.S. Army naming it’s “foreign-manufactured helicopters” after noble American Indian tribes?”

“To make a long story short, Bell, the U.S. manufacturer of proven and battle-tested choppers, was beaten out of a military contract by a mainly alien corporation, who has adopted an American Indian name to make this beast (the Lakota) more acceptable to the American public?”

Now I ask you this: “What is going to happen if the foreign corporations who turn out this Lakota, or other alien equipment utilized by our own military, decide that they do not like us any more? Or if they ally themselves in the future with an unfriendly, or if the quality of their replacement parts is downgraded?

Are we willing to place our very survival, and the ability of our military to perform and win in combat into the hands of foreign powers, presently friendly or not? For after all is said and done, that is exactly what we will be doing, along with gambling with the lives our own kids in the military who fly these birds! “And can you possibly imagine what would happen if parts for the F-16, and other U.S. fighting aircraft such as the Raptor were only available through China or Europe lets say?”

For the record, and to the best of my limited knowledge, Bell Aircraft out of Texas, U.S.A., now turns out a (New, Modern Huey, the best of the best in my opinion). The Bell UH1Y is a twin engine wonder that, again in my opinion, rivals the Lakota? It’s parts are also available in country I believe, and the manufacturer of this bird is a combat proven commodity, and it is (I am reliably informed) not as susceptible to catastrophic engine and/or electronics failures due to heat excess!

Now add to this the fact that a “Retrofit Kit” is available to upgrade the “Older Hueys”, apparently putting them in the competitive arena with this Lakota in my opinion, and you have to begin to ask yourself why we are risking national security and our economy by buying military hardware from foreign manufacturers and vendors!

“Cost says you” - then I ask you this: “What is of more value - “Our economy, and our lives and fighting capabilities in combat, or the economies of foreign entities within this so-called New World Order, replete with it’s mutually assured destruction, par resources, and the availability of equipment and spare parts only from foreign manufactures who may, or may not, remain friendly and non-hostile to our way of life forever?”

“The welfare of our Military and our people, as well as the survival of our economy, is not negotiable!” And as such, politics can not, and must not, ever interfere with Americanism! Unfortunately, far too many politicians, of both political parties, are totally ignoring this fact!

This current political mindset can not, and must not be over looked in the upcoming elections! We were, after all, Americans long before we took on Party Titles. “The survival of our nation, and our economy, has to be paramount in our minds and spirit if we are to regain our respect our leadership in the world!”

“I could give a damn less for any man, corporation, politician, or even the robustly affluent, who prefer vested politics and self- interest above national survival, equal rights, the common good, and their own responsibility to the majority!”

“Again, these are but my own personal opinions, and they have cost me greatly!”

VERITAS (truth)

“It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliance with any portion of the foreign world!” (George Washington’s Farewell Address to the people of the United States 17 September 1796)
