“The fact that we have gone dreadfully wrong somewhere along the line is obvious! As to what we can do about it, and contrary to the army of pseudo experts in our midst, no one seems to have the slightest idea - and that’s a fact!”

The turning point in this tragedy took place on or about 14 August 1945. The enemies of mankind had been defeated (again), and technology, prosperity, and world peace was close at hand (tell me another one)? The past mistakes of humanity would never again be repeated, and mankind set about rebuilding his brave new world! “Dream On!”

No sooner had we beaten the Japanese Imperialist, as well as the Nazi and the Fascist Regimes, that we created yet other dangerous enemy to contend with! For the last 63 years, the Communists have occupied the catbird seat of tyranny, and standing in line right behind them is a multitude of other economic despots awaiting their turn at bat!

We here in the United States had developed a new concept of existence and contrary to world opinion, we really made it work! The only problem was, that the same inherent sicknesses that afflicted other portions of this planet, quickly found their way to our pristine shores and infected us as well. We vainly tried to unify in democracy, the corrupt as well as the worthy, and there-in lies the rub! There is no magic wand that can transform evil into good, not on this side of the great beyond, in any case!

Now add to this the fact that evil is quite content in being evil, misery loves company, greed is far more powerful than anything as seemingly petty as righteousness and jealousy, complacency and apathy are the accepted order of the day, and the only thing left to ponder is the fact that - if we have accomplished nothing else, we have managed to at least fool ourselves into believing that all is well in the world - and therein may truly lie the seeds of our own deception - “LIKE IT OR NOT!”
