Memorial Day may just have passed, but any nation with it’s eye upon the future, must continue to have a plan, and make every day a memorable and historical experience! For only the winds of chance, or the tides of luck, can carry one forward without motivation, purpose or direction!
Sometimes that plan may entail inventiveness, hard work, ingenuity, and even raw guts! But at other times, the original plan may have even gone slightly astray by encompassing a generous serving of manifest destiny (another term for conquest), a little greed or selfishness, and even the occasional lie, without the benefit of forethought or conscience?
When our quest for sovereignty began, however, we were armed with little more than a burning desire for liberty, Yankee stubbornness, the will to succeed, and most of all, that never say die spirit that was blended into the same melting pot that sired us all - each and every one!
We have experienced prosperous times, wars, depression, the oft-time madness of politics, and even a modicum of subversion along the way! However, through all of this and more, we have remained fairly true to the concepts envisioned by Our Founding Fathers. And the road map that they created has successfully guided us over 230 years of progress on a highway of noble direction!
Yes, we have often tripped and stumbled along the way! We have also suffered from more than one bloody nose, as this road to righteousness is fraught with danger and enemies! And it has not, not by any means, been an easy trek! But in this worthwhile voyage, we have created great industries, first rate universities, Earth-shaking discoveries and inventions, a just and mighty nation, and of course - hope for our future!
As far as what direction we will take in that future, or if we even have a future, only our actions, the fates and the Almighty can attest to that? And all that we can do is to stay our righteous course, carry on justly, never satisfy ourselves with yesterday’s accomplishments and dreams, try not to repeat our mistakes, and remember that we too are but mortal, and possibly even transient?
We must also continue to embrace and nurture that same indomitable spirit that has carried us favorably through the first two centuries of our worthwhile existence! For only by retaining this quality can we even hope to survive infinitum!
