Americans are a compassionate people. We want everyone to be treated fairly. We saw some of our people without health care and we felt that something should be done. Why should some of our people go without health care in the richest country on the planet?
It has been an issue for a long time now. I remember when Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, he said that he could bring us health care. It was talked about in Congress for a while. A few bills were voted on but essentially national health care never went anywhere during the Clinton administration.
It never went anywhere because Americans don't want "National Health Care". We just want people who don't have health care to have access to it.
Socialized Medicine - "A system for providing medical and hospital care for all at a nominal cost by means of government regulation of health services and subsidies derived from taxation." It sounds like such a great idea when you write it down on a piece of paper.
The problem is, if the federal government is running things we can count on a state of constant uncertainty and unnecessary perplexity, official forms and procedures that are especially difficult to fill out, oppressively complex, time consuming and wasteful of taxpayers time and money.
As usual, the Democrats blame the Republicans for blocking their efforts and the Republicans blame the Democrats for trying to socialize health care. All of Congress starts shouting at each other and again nothing gets done for the American people.
The reason nothing gets done is either Congress does not understand what Americans want or Congress simply does not care what Americans want. Remember the first paragraph? "We saw
SOME OF OUR PEOPLE without health care and we felt that something should done."
I could start pointing my finger at one side or the other and say "It's their fault nothing is getting done." but the truth is that all of Congress is to blame for the current state of affairs in regards to the lack of health care in this country. The Democrats and the Republicans are so busy arguing with each other they have stopped listing to the American people.
Please let me repeat it.
"WE SEE SOME OF OUR PEOPLE WITHOUT HEALTH CARE AND WE FEEL THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT!" Let me explain this like I am talking to a five year old so maybe the members of Congress can understand. "
You see those Americans over there who can't afford to go to the doctor? WE THE PEOPLE want them to have the ability to see a doctor and be able to prevent sickness by fixing health problems before they become a chronic problem and wind up costing everyone more time, money and suffering." Where in the above statement do Democrats get "Oh, Americans want a health care plan for all Americans." "Let's make a health care plan for all Americans." Where do Republicans get "Americans don't want socialize health care, Let's vote down everything the Democrats come up with."
All we ever wanted was a small plan to provide some health care to some Americans who can't afford it. How did things get so far? Why can't our elected officials listen to our wants? Why can't they understand our needs? Why won't they do the right thing? I would really like to know.
Even if Congress manages to force this health care bill through, as soon as the Republicans are back in power they will just vote it all out. The plain and simple truth is, neither side cares about health care for the Americans who need it.
